For persons that have purchased tickets to the Old School Racing Series event scheduled for July, 18, 2008, Norm and Gene are working with Music City MotorPlex to make that race happen.
The details will follow within the next few days and another event may be added along with a scheduled autograph session. Details are being worked out and will follow soon.
Thanks, Gene

Just a quick question - what cars will you use? Are there any provisions for bad weather? I have to plan my vacation around this! Gene and Norm - good luck and see you at the inaugural event at Motor City!

We went to the races at Music City MotorPlex last week and they announced some of the drivers and the cars they would be driving. My son-in-law is involved in racing at the track. In fact he has been over working on thier car tonight...when he gets back I will let him know about this board and he should be able to answer some of your questions.

they will be driving Grand National Sportsman cars. These cars run every Sat. night at the Music City Motorplex. The guys in this series have given permission for their cars to be used for this great event. Most of the cars have mid '80's Monte Carlo bodies and run the GM steel head crate motor. They turn laps in the low 22 second range at the 5/8 mile oval at the Fairgrounds. That translates to around 98mph average around the track. It's a big, wide, high banked track so this oughta be fun!
Those of you coming out will be able to purchase Old School Merchandise at a discounted rate at the event. Tshirts, hats, stickers, ect...
There will be an autograph session before the race so get your stuff and get it signed.

And a great race it was... well, for 30 laps that is. Hardly enough time to break a sweat but still quite fun to see. While I'd like to have seen more fans there, I was impressed with all the fans that were lined up to see these great drivers and get their autographs. Track officials had to stop fans from joining the end of the line in order to get the race started. Jake Elder was given a nice tribute and his benefit fund was promoted, but unfortunately whoever was in charge of selling merchandise closed the booth too soon. Several of us went looking for Suitcase Jake tribute coins once the race ended but the booth was zipped up already.

By the way, we were told we could buy Jake Elder tribute coins from the Old School Racing website but I can't find any info on the coins, much less a way to purchase some. Anybody got any ideas on how to order these coins?... their cost?

The race was fantastic. Everyone there had an awsome time. We sold a lot of stuff to help Suitcase Jake. We closed the booth to watch the race ourselves but then reopened it right after the race. We were there for 5 hours before the race so anyone who missed the chance to purchase a memory, we're really sorry.
We thought we already had the coins on the website. It must be an oversight. We'll get them available. They will be $20 plus $3 shipping and handling.
Can't wait until the next Old School Race. All the drivers were so excited and they all had a great time.
Also, we put the driver's names across the windshield of their respective cars. These decals have been preserved and autographed by each driver. They will be auctioned off on ebay shortly with all proceeds going to suitcase Jake. Be on the lookout.
Thanks for supporting Old School Racing!
